We're dancing cheek-to-cheek with winter. He's a mighty cold partner!
Lodgepole Pines are chilly companions as we crunch through the snow.
Some days, we become kids again skiing with our Grandchildren.
Pop Pop teaches them to oink like Powder Pigs when we get a bit of fresh snow.
(He oinks loudly, too!)

| Ten Mile Station, Breckenridge Ski Area |
On less-frigid, blue-sky days, you might find us relaxing, raising our faces toward the sun.
We need more snow in Breckenridge. Our snowpack remains below average. The upper mountain trails that are open are marginal, with rocks and downed trees either exposed or just below the surface of the snow. We're getting plenty of cold but not many big storms.
We hope for snow not only for our winter sports but to provide moisture for our forests and reservoirs.
Keeping our fingers crossed for SNOW!
Our World

Wow this scenario is so different from where I am. Love it. Makes me want to drive to the high sierras and buy a lift ticket!
ReplyDeleteI know much of Colorado was drier than normal last year, so I hope you do get some good snow storms to help fill reservoirs. Of course, skiers would like that as well. I enjoyed your photos.
ReplyDeleteSo much snow! It's beautiful, and I love to look at it, but I don't like to be out in it long. Lovely pictures!
ReplyDeleteAn ice halo! Is that why the sun is glowing like that in the second shot? These must be pre- frostbite, or you must be heaps better!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great time!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteAt Ten Mile Station are those chairs all waiting for the intrepid skiers?? Love Pop Pop's tuition!! Hope you get more snow and great days on the trails. Cheers from Jean.
ReplyDeleteHere's wishing you lots of new powder for your family of powder pigs!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get the much needed snow soon Barb. You are wise to sit in the sunshine, we all need that extra vitamin D in the winter months. I try to stay outside in the sun as long as I can while walking my dogs!
ReplyDeleteLove Di ♥
Thank you for stopping by Pret-A-Vivre Barb. It looks like so much fun with you lovely photos. I wish I had learned how to ski when I was younger.
ReplyDeleteIt really looks like fun - and great exercise too! LOVE your pics :)
ReplyDeleteMy fingers are crossed. It was way too dry last year!
ReplyDeleteAs cold as I know it is your pictures are beautiful and it looks like you are having a great time. I have a trip to Winter Park planned at the end of the month and I have been a little concerned about the cold, but your pictures have encouraged me. I do hope we all get some snow soon.
ReplyDeletei love the way you make lemonade from snowcones.
ReplyDeleteI'll say a snow prayer for your area too. We are going to get a wintry mix tonight but doubtful any snow. Carol
ReplyDeleteI rode my bike through Breckenridge a couple of summers ago, but have never been there in the winter. It's such a beautiful place, I'd love to see it in the winter. It sure looks like you're having fun!
ReplyDeleteI like the vignette treatment you gave some of these.
ReplyDeleteLike you, we have been having cold weather but no precipitation of late. Record cold, actually, not good for our citrus farmers. I will have to wait a few weeks to see just how much damage was done to my eight citrus trees. One has a lot of fruit on it and I covered it the best I could. The others were on their own.
You four look pretty relaxed on those cold seats! Winter mix predicted for here tonight.
ReplyDeleteI love the ski trail through the pines and those colorful Adirondack chairs in the snow. Here's hoping you get lots more snow.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty photos. It's been terribly dry here on top of the Palmer Divide, I don't think we've had a foot of snow yet this winter.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the little snow pig oinking their way through the powder. It's been quite cold here, too, but I'm sure it's far colder there. Best wishes for more snow for you all. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteHello, Barb!
ReplyDeleteSo much fun! For me, looks like you have had enough snow in Breckenridge. It is so beautiful!! I often wonder if it will snow, looking up the sky, but it has not come yet. I would like to see snow scene in my town, though I am not good at skiing...
Have a great time!
Tomoko
It looks crispy. Like so many places right now.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely shots - snow finally! Here too again. There's nothing as invigorating as snow and sun - it's a wonderful combination.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the photos of your world, and of you and Pop Pop enjoying it with your grandkids. I am hoping for snow too but I don't see it anywhere in the forecast. We all need it! Take care.
ReplyDeleteso gorgeous! I've been there but only in the Summer.
ReplyDeleteI love that last shot! such fun!
Wonderful photos, Barb, - I love the last one. You didn't tell me you needed snow!!! I could have sent all sorts down across the border, - would you like it drifting down or could I arrange for trucksful??
ReplyDeleteI am so envious of you even if it is a low level of snow for you! We had snow twice this year but only flakes and none remaining on the ground but hoping for some this year. Thanks for shariang yorus with me thru your photos. I loved them and am so jealous.
ReplyDeleteThanks for telling me there is something the matter with my blog commenting. I can't find the old page where it tells me to say who can and can't comment and I surely never put a word to keep comments secure. I jsut don't know what to do BUT I see your comment finally posted. . . HOPE I can figure how to get going again.
I will also look at your last post and comment as I see it is your "anniversary" and I want to see how you are doing. I sure have missed blogging. Thanks for dropping by my email occasionally.
Lovely shots!
ReplyDeleteMay you have as much snow as you wish for!!
May you receive a lovely big dump of the white stuff Barb, I understand how important the melt is....
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos, made me smile. The last one of course was such fun and joyful. But the third one really made me pause and look, it was beckoning me to continue up that trail.
Beautiful pictures ! We finally have some snow in Belgium too !
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots, especially of those adorable snow bunnies or should I say powder pigs. Also love those back country trails.
ReplyDeleteI do hope you get the moisture you need. We are finally getting some good rains as well as snows after last years drought. The dry creek beds are flowing once again.
The snow pack is pretty good here (thank goodness), but it is definitely cold cold cold...minus 11 one morning this week!
ReplyDeleteYour grandchildren are adorable...
xxoo,
RMW
Snow can be fantastic also here in The Netherlands we have 20cm.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Filip
It's so cold and a little grumpy on my end here, but looking at these beautiful photos make me thing winter CAN be wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these excellent photos. You make me want to ski! And t
ReplyDeleteI bet it is very cold up there in the high country. It has been cold down here in the plains. I love these photos. The last one is priceless. I hope you get a good snowfall soon. We all need the moisture.
ReplyDeleteOh hubby would love to step out his backyard and ski. Not so much this beach girl! Love that first photo and the family.
ReplyDeleteLet it snow let it snow let it snow (in Breckenridge)....The family photos are so great! What fun.
ReplyDeleteI think we are all praying for rain or snow--it has been so dry here in the midwest. I am envious of your lovely mountain scenes--we have skied in CO for many years, but may not make it out there this year. Enjoy the beauty that surrounds you as well as those special times with your grandkids. Mickie :)
ReplyDeleteI hear the snow is great this time of year in Vermont;)
ReplyDeleteLove the pics, I hope you get more snow soon.
Wonderful! It looks cold. Brr, but I can't wait until I frost my own piggy nose on the slopes.
ReplyDeleteSkiing is on my bucket list. Your pictures are calling my name. Come on, Anita, they say.
ReplyDeleteThat HAD to be a great day for you all!
I envy those who are so "in tune" with the snow... The best we can do is lie down and make a family of Snow Angels ;-p
ReplyDeleteYour beautiful pictures brought back x-country ski days in the Laurentian mountains of Quebec. Even on the coldest days, as long as we kept moving we stayed warm. The grandkids will remember the "oinking" and laughter for many years to come. They are lucky to have such youthful and fun-loving grandparents.
ReplyDeleteNice to see you back on the slopes. The weather is not cooperating much here, either. We have snow and then rain and then freezing which results in an icy lunar landscape. Not much fun for snowshoeing. And there are still some who say there is no climate change...
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful pictures. I hope you get more snow. We did not get any snow here in 2012 and it does not look good now as it has been quite sunny and in the mid 50s. If it snows here, everything stops – everything as we don’t know how to handle it well. I’d like to see snow though – well, at least for a couple of days…
ReplyDeleteNice to visit you here in your winter sports' haven! There's nothing like the open air and regular exercise that suits our style, to keep us fit and happy.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visit and comments when you came in to see Reflections and Nature. That exercise on artistic blur is more difficult than one thinks! There's such a fine line between not enough blur and too much! It was really fun trying it out though!
Your images are beautiful! I can feel and hear the quiet of the woods, well except for the "oinks!" I can only image that kind of snow! We average very little here in Arkansas! You have such a wonderful sport that you can participate in with your grandchildren!!
ReplyDeletegood to be back to see you- love the snowy colorado images, and the obvious enjoyment of the outdoors. hoping, too for enough moisture to get all of us through. happy 2013-
ReplyDeleteLooks like plenty of snow to me, at least it would be hereabouts
ReplyDeleteYou look like you are enjoying yourselves.
A beautiful family in the lovely wonderland of snow! I’d like to sit back and relax on the chair beside you in person, feeling the warmth of the sun and admiring the landscape with glinting powder snow.
ReplyDeleteToday it’s raining. Freezing rain is so depressing... I wish it would turn to snow, but I won’t complain as it is good to our dry winter. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for more snow in your place. Enjoy the joys that winter only can bring. I like your word “dancing cheek-to-cheek with winter.”
Thank you for the kind and supportive words regarding my daughter-in-law in hospital. The talk of Caden (in the previous comment) encouraged us. Incidentally, my daughter is also pregnant and her time is early May. She’s in good condition.
Yoko
so good to see you all having fun.
ReplyDeleteyou and i are so lucky to be able to ski right out our doors into the wilderness!
well there is still time for you to get your snow quota, so let's trust that it will happen and gently ;-)
Did Pop Pop like the addition of the oinking part of the blog, lol? Beautiful skiing pics, Barb! Your grandkids will have wonderful memories of being outside with you.
ReplyDeleteAmazing photographs! I just love reading the blogs of others and getting a glimpse into different worlds! I live in a little estate of houses in Dublin, Ireland. It's a lovely place to live and we are near to the city, the beach, the parks etc ~Still, I can't help being a little envious of your amazing habitat!
ReplyDeleteWish more snow for you and more rain for us. Hopefully the drought trend will be ending soon.
ReplyDeleteWonderful fun shots... the first of the semi-frozen river is gorgeous, such rich colors! I'm your newest rss subscriber...
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun enjoying winter with the grandkids. Utah had a good storm last weekend. I hope some of that snow came your way, too.
