We cross country ski into the National Forest from the back of our property.
Lodgepole Pines are chilly companions as we crunch through the snow.
Some days, we become kids again skiing with our Grandchildren.
Pop Pop teaches them to oink like Powder Pigs when we get a bit of fresh snow.

On less-frigid, blue-sky days, you might find us relaxing, raising our faces toward the sun.
We need more snow in Breckenridge. Our snowpack remains below average. The upper mountain trails that are open are marginal, with rocks and downed trees either exposed or just below the surface of the snow. We're getting plenty of cold but not many big storms.
We hope for snow not only for our winter sports but to provide moisture for our forests and reservoirs.

Wow this scenario is so different from where I am. Love it. Makes me want to drive to the high sierras and buy a lift ticket!
ReplyDeleteI know much of Colorado was drier than normal last year, so I hope you do get some good snow storms to help fill reservoirs. Of course, skiers would like that as well. I enjoyed your photos.

ReplyDeleteI hope you get the much needed snow soon Barb. You are wise to sit in the sunshine, we all need that extra vitamin D in the winter months. I try to stay outside in the sun as long as I can while walking my dogs!

ReplyDeleteI rode my bike through Breckenridge a couple of summers ago, but have never been there in the winter. It's such a beautiful place, I'd love to see it in the winter. It sure looks like you're having fun!

ReplyDeleteLike you, we have been having cold weather but no precipitation of late. Record cold, actually, not good for our citrus farmers. I will have to wait a few weeks to see just how much damage was done to my eight citrus trees. One has a lot of fruit on it and I covered it the best I could. The others were on their own.
You four look pretty relaxed on those cold seats! Winter mix predicted for here tonight.

The snow pack is pretty good here (thank goodness), but it is definitely cold cold cold...minus 11 one morning this week!

ReplyDeleteYour beautiful pictures brought back x-country ski days in the Laurentian mountains of Quebec. Even on the coldest days, as long as we kept moving we stayed warm. The grandkids will remember the "oinking" and laughter for many years to come. They are lucky to have such youthful and fun-loving grandparents.
ReplyDeleteNice to see you back on the slopes. The weather is not cooperating much here, either. We have snow and then rain and then freezing which results in an icy lunar landscape. Not much fun for snowshoeing. And there are still some who say there is no climate change...

Your images are beautiful! I can feel and hear the quiet of the woods, well except for the "oinks!" I can only image that kind of snow! We average very little here in Arkansas! You have such a wonderful sport that you can participate in with your grandchildren!!

It's a lovely place to live and we are near to the city, the beach, the parks etc ~Still, I can't help being a little envious of your amazing habitat!
