LIfe at High Altitude in Colorado

May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.

What a Difference a Day Makes - Skywatch

Yesterday, in Denver, I ran through fallen leaves.

It looks like I'm running really fast, doesn't it?
Well, photos sometimes lie....

The boulevard was still vibrant with color.

This morning, a different world awaited me.

A white silence hung over Cheesman Park.

Yesterday, my favorite willow wept with joy.

Today, it was shivering in the snow.

The city awakened to a metallic sky.

A few brave leaves still flaunted their colors.

More snow is due tonight.

  1. It looks like winter knocked on your backdoor and someone let it in. So beautiful there. I'm still getting through just past peak Fall here in Kentucky. Love that first image! Carol

  2. This post puts me right next to my sisters house and since we don't communicate as well as we should it is nice to see what her beautiful weather is like!

  4. Quite a change from the high 70s we had a few days ago....but beautiful to see the snow this morning. Your pictures show the contrast in all its glory.

  6. We had several inches here on top of the Palmer Divide, it made for tricky driving this morning. Lovely photos!

  10. How beautiful! Collaboration of colored leaves and snow creates such magical scenes! I haven’t seen dusting of snow except on bare trees or evergreens. Our autumn foliage will peak in late November. Until then, I’ll enjoy gradual cooling and change of colors. Stay warm.

  12. I love the frosting on the autumn leaves.
Yes, we are all closed up for the winter, so sad. Sometimes I wish we had a year round mountain home but then I think dealing with the snow might get old after awhile.

  15. Lovely snow and autumn colours, all here for me to peruse with my coffee before i go to work. Outside my window this morning is grey, dank and drab, feels cold and damp, so it is nice to see what it is like where you are.

  16. That silence that you mentioned is one of the things I love about winter. I love that you did the before and after Barb. I can really "FEEL" the difference! Beautiful! Love Di ♥

  17. Love the photos. I love when the seasons intersect like that. You must be getting itchy for some skiing having seen the white stuff.

  18. Barb,
I so enjoy your photography! You have such a wonderful eye for capturing perfect images. We won't be getting any of that snow, but our temps are feeling mighty chilly at night. I'm waiting now for the guy to come check my old gas heater. I have been afraid to turn it on (it's sooo old!) & have been relying on a little plug in heater! Need to get the chimney swept as well. Nothing like waiting til the last minute!

  19. A day definitely made a difference in your world. I love seeing such beautiful sights, but prefer living where it does not happen.

  20. It snowed here also! About six inches at my house, a skiff in the valley. Yikes! It seems too early to me for some reason.

    Beautiful shots!

  22. No snow here yet, but leaves were falling....wind and rain brought down most of them today. I really like the look of the last photo, Barb.

What IS it about snow that is so magical.

  36. What a great series, contrasting autumn and winter.
Our autumn leaves are about gone, but winter beauty hasn't arrived.

  38. Hi,Barb,
What beautiful snow scenes those are! I like your snow with reddish yellow and brown leaves, and enjoy your different views at the same time!!The last snow people in Nara saw was 2 years ago. Snowy weather arrives after colorful leaves fell down.
    Have a good day,

    Tomoko

The weather can change drastically in just one day.
I see some leaves are still on the trees with the snow. very pretty. maybe not so good for the tree, but pretty nonetheless.

  40. Autumn to winter - over night! The alternating colors from brights to neutrals seem to ask, "Which do you like best?"
