LIfe at High Altitude in Colorado

May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.

Look What I Found - Scavenger Hunt Sunday

We had enough cold and snow in Colorado this week to remind us that winter is just around the corner.  I spent the week in Denver, enjoying the parks, the Botanic Gardens, and my younger Grandchildren. Yesterday, we did a bit of early trick or treating. (Grammy likes treats, and I've been known to play a trick or two.)

I've enjoyed scavenger hunting with my iPhone, so here are my finds:

PATTERNS

This is the roof of the greenhouse inside the Tropical Garden at Denver Botanic. It was so cold outside, my glasses steamed up immediately upon entering its humid cocoon. I was glad I was using my iPhone and not my big lens to snap some photos.

MACHINE

I chose a simple machine with gears, chains, axles, and brakes: a bicycle. The bike was secured to a "No Parking" sign at the bus stop in Chessman Park. I think the rider got discouraged and opted to go the rest of the way to work on the bus (a more complex machine).

ROCKS OR STONES

Pop Pop strolls with the Grands along a path of smooth black stones arranged to look like flowing water. The children kept warm by hop, skip and jumping along the paths and trails of the Gardens.

SPARKLE

The sky became part of the the pond, with the sun adding a bit of bling.

SIGNS or LOGOS

Fatty's Pizzeria is one of the oldest on-going restaurants in Breckenridge, opening its doors for business in 1975. It occupies one of the town's many historic buildings. Fatty's is known for decorating to showcase various holidays and seasons. Here it is in "costume" for Halloween.

Have a BOO-tiful week!

  1. Fantastic Barb. Looks like you've had fun with the grandkids. Can't believe winter is around the corner. It's cold here today, but it could be colder. Hurricane Sandy is bringing us winds tomorrow. Carol

  3. I'm loving your pictures and the idea of a scavenger hunt. I'm also still wondering how you manage to make iPhone pics so interesting, composition aside. Do you "doctor" them in any way? I think I have some mucking around to do with my (older) iPhone :)

The river of stones is gorgeous. Though I'm not a fan of all hallows eve, I also like the giant skull and frontage. Tres cool. Have a great week X

  11. Amazing finds for the Scavenger Hunt! The sparkle photo is lovely. And the portrait of the kids with their pop pop on that stone path is a keeper for sure. Nothing here that isn't lovely. I like the way the Colorado snow comes and goes this time of year.

  15. This scavenger hunt idea seems tailor made for you.
I am wondering if the bicycle photo was enhanced or if it reflects the actual muted coloring of the day.

  22. How beautiful your photos are!! "Rocks or
Stones" is full of happiness. "Signs or Logos" has such a spooky atmosphere that I am enjoyed to be scared. In Sparkle, the grasses look like green fireworks reaching out to the double skies. I looked up "Scavenger Hunt" in a dictionary. Very very interesting expression!!!
    Have a great autumn day.

  24. So beautiful... just goes to show that it's your eye and not the fancy camera that makes a photo. I love the "rocks and stones" one. It's beautiful, with Pop pop and the two children. I also love the machine - but you could've predicted that!
