We had enough cold and snow in Colorado this week to remind us that winter is just around the corner. I spent the week in Denver, enjoying the parks, the Botanic Gardens, and my younger Grandchildren. Yesterday, we did a bit of early trick or treating. (Grammy likes treats, and I've been known to play a trick or two.)
I've enjoyed scavenger hunting with my iPhone, so here are my finds:
PATTERNS
This is the roof of the greenhouse inside the Tropical Garden at Denver Botanic. It was so cold outside, my glasses steamed up immediately upon entering its humid cocoon. I was glad I was using my iPhone and not my big lens to snap some photos.
I chose a simple machine with gears, chains, axles, and brakes: a bicycle. The bike was secured to a "No Parking" sign at the bus stop in Chessman Park. I think the rider got discouraged and opted to go the rest of the way to work on the bus (a more complex machine).
ROCKS OR STONES
Pop Pop strolls with the Grands along a path of smooth black stones arranged to look like flowing water. The children kept warm by hop, skip and jumping along the paths and trails of the Gardens.
SPARKLE
Fatty's Pizzeria is one of the oldest on-going restaurants in Breckenridge, opening its doors for business in 1975. It occupies one of the town's many historic buildings. Fatty's is known for decorating to showcase various holidays and seasons. Here it is in "costume" for Halloween.
Have a BOO-tiful week!

Fantastic Barb. Looks like you've had fun with the grandkids. Can't believe winter is around the corner. It's cold here today, but it could be colder. Hurricane Sandy is bringing us winds tomorrow. Carol
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed your scavenger hunt. Fun with the kids! Very nice shots.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving your pictures and the idea of a scavenger hunt. I'm also still wondering how you manage to make iPhone pics so interesting, composition aside. Do you "doctor" them in any way? I think I have some mucking around to do with my (older) iPhone :)
ReplyDeleteThe river of stones is gorgeous. Though I'm not a fan of all hallows eve, I also like the giant skull and frontage. Tres cool. Have a great week X
Hey Barb, I enjoyed spending a little time here and on your other site. I love the sparkling watery reflection shot and the bicycle chained to the post. Thanks for stopping by today.
ReplyDeleteI recognized the green house roof right away. The picture walking on the stone path is stunning....it looks like a painting. I'll take our cold and snow any day over what they a facing on the east coast.
ReplyDeleteYou've scavenged some gorgeous shots and more memories too. And now I want pizza for dinner.
ReplyDeleteSuch a fascinating rock pathway - very ethereal shot all together. I am dreading the predicted snow this week - just too early in my book. Lovely set of pictures for this week's hunt; I enjoyed visiting.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, I loved what you have done with this week's prompts. We love the Denver Arboretum.
ReplyDeleteWOW - what an amazing set of photos!!! I LOVE(!!!) your stones and sparkle! great work!
ReplyDeleteBlessings & Joys to you!!!
Rocks or stones is a great photo, and I really like Sparkle, too. Nice that you're having some special time with the grandkids.
ReplyDeleteAmazing finds for the Scavenger Hunt! The sparkle photo is lovely. And the portrait of the kids with their pop pop on that stone path is a keeper for sure. Nothing here that isn't lovely. I like the way the Colorado snow comes and goes this time of year.
ReplyDeleteHi,Barb.
ReplyDeleteAll of the photos for Scavenger Hunt are lovely! I always enjoy your collections with a deep sigh.I like the photos "Machine" and "Sings or Logos" very much! I was spending with my mother for a couple of days. Tokyo and Nara, we are in the midst of autumn.
Have a great day!

Barb,
ReplyDeletethese are wonderful photos
the bike mixed with no barking
the old Fatty's with the decorations
holding hands, the sacred mix of generations
sunshine and water
i really enjoyed your photographs
Hi Barb,
ReplyDeleteYour scavenger hunt photos are fabulous, but I love love that third one as it looked so much like it was in a fantasy world. Icy!
This scavenger hunt idea seems tailor made for you.
ReplyDeleteI am wondering if the bicycle photo was enhanced or if it reflects the actual muted coloring of the day.
The best of both worlds!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds! The rocks made me dizzy, but it's so beautiful at the same time! And man, pizza would be so good right now!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! :)
Your pics are awesome!
ReplyDeletelove the bicycle photo!
ReplyDeletea fun group of photos. I enjoyed hearing the stories behind them.
I love your play on Scavenger Hunt. The texture on the photo of Pop Pop is just lovely! The lens flare and other reflections look like stars!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your i-phone!
Love the scavenger hunt idea! These photos are all, as always, incredible, but that one of rocks and Pop Pop with the kids is truly special. Beautiful moment you captured.
ReplyDeleteAnother great collection!
ReplyDeleteWhat great effects and photos. That pizza house is amazing! I do love the unearthly quality of the rocks and stones shots.
ReplyDeleteHello Barb, aside from the fact that your photos are always awesome, this was just plain good old fashioned - FUN! :)
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful your photos are!! "Rocks or
ReplyDeleteStones" is full of happiness. "Signs or Logos" has such a spooky atmosphere that I am enjoyed to be scared. In Sparkle, the grasses look like green fireworks reaching out to the double skies. I looked up "Scavenger Hunt" in a dictionary. Very very interesting expression!!!
Have a great autumn day.

The rocks or stones are beautiful "and" creepy. My brain changed them to hard-back bugs. :) Another set of wonderful photos showcasing your wonderful life. How nice. :)
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful... just goes to show that it's your eye and not the fancy camera that makes a photo. I love the "rocks and stones" one. It's beautiful, with Pop pop and the two children. I also love the machine - but you could've predicted that!
ReplyDeleteOh this was great Barb! I loved the stone walk! And Fatty's looks like an interesting piece of history.
ReplyDeleteLove Di ♥
Love the name of the pizzeria -- but I doubt it would shame me into not entering and eating a big slice! :)
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you took these wonderful photos with your iPhone. I loved the photo of Pop Pop and the grandchildren on the stone path. I love that path. I need to go to Botanical Gardens again. Sending good wishes your way...
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE the photo pf Pop Pop, the kids and the stones! Your iPhone photos are incredibly good!
ReplyDeleteA great series.
ReplyDeletevisiting late... Fabulous fabulous shots!! ;) the snow and the rock shots are my favs!! ;)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you and Pops had a fantastic day with the grands!
ReplyDeleteHi, Barb! I feel your warm affection in your back in “Rocks or Stones”, I like the sparkling plant reaching toward the sky and floating in the sky, and the snow scene with the chained bicycle is simply beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYoko
Very lovely scavenger hunt finds. Your "machine" is superb. Lucky, lucky you to spend so much time with the grandkids!
ReplyDeleteOh these are PERFECT!
ReplyDeletegreat finds...I am a big fan of sparkles+shadows too:-)
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one who sees a face in the Sparkle plant? This is what I have done since I was just a kid, finding faces.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Jo, Stella and Zkhat
